Rock The Bells 2011 Line-Up

I'm pretty sure any true hip hop fan soiled their pants when they first heard this amazing news. This line-up may just be the best Rock The Bells line-up up to date. With hip hop legends such as Mobb Deep, Cypress Hill, Raekwon/Ghostface, GZA, Nas, Black Moon, Lauren Hill, etc playing their debut classics, this festival will bring old timers nostalgia and remind them of the good old days when hip hop was golden. Not to mention a wise selection of newer artists who have already left their mark in hip hop such as Blu, Freddie Gibbs, Big K.R.I.T., and Currensy. This years Rock The Bells will be one to remember.

Stalley Joins MMG

Now this bit of news left me puzzled. The Ohio emcee does not sound like something Rick Ross would want on his Maybach Music team. Stalley raps over mellow beats with intellectual subject matter; on the other hand, Rick Ross' lyrics consist of owning the most expensive luxuries and being a "boss." Not to say I don't enjoy Ross' music, I just don't really see how Stalley will fit in. Either way, trading in your old beat up Lincoln for a brand new Maybach is one good ass look. Maybach Music Group is now Rick Ross, Pill, Meek Mill, Wale, and Stalley.

Freddie Gibbs Signs to CTE

A few weeks back, Freddie Gibbs declared at a show in Chicago that he was finally signing the dotted line to a label by the name of CTE. This same label's main bread winner is Young Jeezy, so I don't really know how to feel about Gibbs' decision. Although it is considered the smart decision for his career, Young Jeezy blows has the potential to turn Gibbs' music into crap. But then again, the 2010 freshman declared to stay true to his roots and produce nothing but that real hip hop. We'll just have to wait and see.

Welcome Back P!

Prodigy, of Mobb Deep, was released from jail today after finishing his 3 year bid. Lets hope the H.N.I.C. continues to create hood music now that he's finally free.

Lupe Fiasco is Not Real Happy With Album

Ha! I called it... Poor Lupe doesn't feel great about his album which drops next month. His hit single "The Show Goes On" was pushed onto him by his label in order to reach the masses. It's sad that an artist this great is forced to put out work that he's not even a fan of. Fuck the mainstream if that's where these white guys in suites are going to take it. Record labels need to stop getting in the way of Emcees making true classic hip hop albums (not that Trill OG BS).

Check out what DX said, Lupe Fiasco Explains How Compromise Affected "Lasers"

But... We saw what happened to Rhymefest. He went independent because his label was pushing him around and El Che was a disaster.

2011 XXL Freshman

This year's XXL Freshman consists of Big K.R.I.T., CyHi Da Prynce, Diggy Simmons, Fred the Godson, Kendrick Lamar, Lil B, Lil Twist, Mac Miller, Meek Mill, YG and Yelawolf. Pretty damn disappointing... There's only a few on this year's list who actually deserve the recognition and career boost. To Phil Ade, XV, and TiRon: there's always next year.

Wale - The Break Up Song (Video)

Video for Wale’s “The Break Up Song”. Off his last mixtape, More About Nothing (2010). Diggin’ the 500 Days of Summer theme.

Download The Break Up Song

In related news: Wale is officially signed to Rick Ross’ music label. Although it may not sound like such a great thing, don’t forget Rick Ross has Justice League (the production team) behind him. We already heard Wale on “Center of Attention”; can’t wait to see what the future holds for Mr. Folarin!

Nicki Minaj - Black Men Magazine Photo shoot

My roommates hate on me for thinking she's hot. Personally I think they might just be gay. This is what you can find if you buy Black Men magazine's next issue. Not the biggest fan of her music but damn these pictures make me want to go out and buy her album (even though i know i won't even make it through the first 3 tracks).

Yo Gotti – Look in the Mirror (rmx) f. J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa & Wale

I don't even know what to think... Don't let my opinion distort your own thoughts on the track but I'm just wondering what the hell J. Cole is doing rapping over this type of beat? He's lyrically there like always but I just don't know if this is what I wan't to hear from the man. I just really hope his managers aren't trying to see how far they can push it so they can appeal to a bigger crowd. Fuck it, why not add some variety to the mix...
